Job Description

The Safety Coordinator plays a key role in supporting site-wide safety on a large hospital construction project in Indian Land, SC. In this position, you walk the jobsite, monitor safe work practices, and partner closely with the Safety Manager to ensure all workers follow OSHA regulations, company policies, and project-specific safety requirements. You help maintain a strong safety culture by identifying hazards, promoting PPE compliance, and assisting with training and documentation for a growing team of construction professionals.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections to identify unsafe conditions, unsafe behaviors, and potential hazards across the mechanical portion of the hospital construction project.
• Ensure consistent compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific safety procedures for all employees and subcontractors.
• Assist with new hire safety orientations and support ongoing safety training programs to reinforce safe work practices.
• Monitor proper selection, use, and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and address non-compliance in a timely and professional manner.
• Participate in daily pre-task planning and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) meetings to help crews identify risks and define safe work methods before starting work.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and reported safety concerns, and assist in developing and implementing corrective action plans.
• Maintain accurate and organized safety documentation, including inspection reports, training records, incident reports, and other safety-related logs.
• Coordinate and facilitate toolbox talks and weekly safety meetings to communicate safety expectations and reinforce key safety topics.
• Conduct audits of subcontractors and employees to verify adherence to safe work practices and project safety requirements.
• Assist project teams with safety programs related to fall protection, excavation safety, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, and other hazard-specific procedures as needed.
• Support emergency response planning, accident prevention initiatives, and site-wide safety campaigns.
• Communicate safety expectations clearly and consistently, and help promote a positive, proactive safety culture throughout the project.
• Work closely with the Safety Manager to help control the jobsite, ensure alignment on safety standards, and confirm that work is performed in the safest manner possible.

Essential Skills

• OSHA 30 certification is required and serves as the minimum safety credential for this role.
• 1–3 years of construction safety experience, preferably on large commercial or industrial construction sites.
• Demonstrated familiarity with construction environments and oversight of construction workers in the field.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA construction standards and industry best practices.
• Ability to conduct jobsite inspections, identify hazards, and recommend practical corrective actions.
• Effective communication skills to interact with project teams, subcontractors, and clients in a clear and professional manner.
• Solid organizational skills to manage documentation, reports, and training records accurately.
• Strong problem-solving skills to respond to safety issues and support incident investigations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and electronic reporting systems for safety documentation and communication.
• Ability to participate in and contribute to pre-task planning, JHAs, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
• Additional safety certifications such as OSHA 500, CHST, STSC, or similar credentials are preferred.
• First aid training or certification is highly desirable.
• Spanish bilingual skills are a plus and can enhance communication on a diverse jobsite.
• Experience with health and safety programs, safety training, and safety management is beneficial.
• Background in data center or commercial construction projects is advantageous but not required.

Work Environment

This role is based on a large hospital construction project in Indian Land, SC, focused on the mechanical portion of the facility. You spend most of your time walking the jobsite, interacting with crews, and observing work in active construction areas. The schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with work performed primarily outdoors or in partially enclosed structures typical of a hospital project under construction. You use standard safety equipment and PPE, such as hard hats, safety glasses, high-visibility vests, gloves, and appropriate footwear, and you operate within a fast-paced environment where multiple trades work simultaneously. The position relies on common construction safety tools, Microsoft Office, and electronic reporting systems to manage inspections, documentation, and communication.

This is a Contract position based out of Indian Land, SC.

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Indian Land,SC.
